AUDITION & CASTING POLICY

Studio Muiz Limited is committed to fair, transparent, and inclusive audition and casting practices across all areas of its work, including theatre, film, television, documentary, podcasting, digital content, and live performance. This policy sets out our approach to auditions and casting and should be read alongside our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion commitments.

Studio Muiz Limited recognises the influence and responsibility inherent in casting decisions and is committed to ensuring that all audition and casting processes are conducted professionally, respectfully, and without discrimination. Casting decisions are made on artistic, creative, and practical grounds relevant to the specific project, role, and context.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and to fostering an inclusive creative environment. Studio Muiz Limited does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, socio-economic background, or any other protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.

Auditions may take place in person or remotely and may include self-tapes, workshops, recalls, meetings, or readings. All audition materials, including scripts and sides, are provided solely for the purposes of audition and must not be shared, recorded, or distributed without permission.

We aim to provide clear information about roles, including character breakdowns, required skills, accents, physical requirements where relevant, and any content warnings. Where possible, reasonable adjustments will be made to support access needs during the audition process. Individuals are encouraged to disclose access requirements in advance so that appropriate support can be considered.

Studio Muiz Limited acknowledges that casting processes can involve power imbalances and vulnerability. Auditions are conducted in a professional manner at all times. No individual will be pressured to undertake actions they are uncomfortable with, and no audition will require nudity, simulated sexual activity, or physical intimacy. Where projects later involve such content, this will be handled through rehearsed, consent-led processes and supported by qualified intimacy coordinators.

Casting decisions are made by the creative and casting team relevant to the project. Decisions may take into account artistic vision, ensemble balance, scheduling, availability, funding requirements, and other legitimate production considerations. Submission or audition does not guarantee casting, recall, or feedback.

Studio Muiz Limited endeavours to treat all applicants with respect. Due to the volume of submissions received, we cannot guarantee individual feedback unless explicitly offered. Where feedback is provided, it is intended to be constructive and reflective of the specific project at that time.

Audition materials and personal data are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Self-tapes, audition recordings, and casting submissions may be retained securely on file indefinitely for the purposes of casting consideration, project development, archives, records, and future productions, unless an individual requests deletion. All materials are treated as confidential and are not shared beyond those involved in casting, development, and internal review.

Studio Muiz Limited may film or record auditions conducted in person, including recalls, workshops, and readings. Studio Muiz Limited may also record and/or transcribe virtual meetings, auditions, or discussions conducted via platforms such as Microsoft Teams. Recordings and transcripts are used for casting, creative review, operational purposes, and record-keeping, and are stored securely in accordance with data protection law.

Studio Muiz Limited encourages open dialogue and welcomes feedback on its casting practices. Any concerns relating to auditions, conduct, or fairness should be raised via datacontroller@studiomuiz.com or, where relevant, through our Safeguarding reporting routes.

This policy applies to all individuals involved in auditions and casting on behalf of Studio Muiz Limited, including staff, freelancers, casting collaborators, and creative partners. Breaches of this policy may result in removal from the casting process or termination of professional engagement.

This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with legal and industry best practice.
